A Shanghai native, Jonathan Wu is a composer, musician, and artist. Jonathan strives to share his passion for music with the rest of the world. He started piano at 4 before studying music theory and picked up drums at 8. He is currently studying composition with world-class composer Wang Jie. Jonathan was a participant in the 2020 Curtis Young Artist Summer Program where he worked with many distinguished composers and instrumentalists. Jonathan was also the youngest composer in the 2020 Brevard summer program. In the 2019 Minnesota Public Radio varsity program, he was a finalist both as an instrumentalist and composer. Jonathan is also the student pianist for the Minnesota Opera and assisted British composer Lewis Murphy in the first foreign production of his opera Belongings. He participles in local jazz events, and was a recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. Some of Jonathan’s favorite musicians include Ravel, Wang Yuja, and Hiromi. In his free time, Jonathan enjoys discovering new music, reading, and playing tennis.
